Frihamnstorget is becoming a space for contemporary circus. 2023 we started a public program inviting circus, we’ve done residencies, exploratory work and pre-studies. Next we are aiming to open a circushall in an old gym in the midst of the container square. Follow our journey and don’t hestitate to get involved.
The “in betweens”
During spring 2024 we did a prestudy with funding from Kulturbryggans fröpengar. The goal was to explore if and how the various shapes between containers could be adapted to spaces for both show and practice with the right riggpoints and technical needs.
Gymhall => Circushall
At the core of Frihamnstorget there is an unused gymhall, which in combination with the experimental environment amongst the containers could serve as a central node for circus in the region. The idea is to combine courses, daily training, residencies and circus program for the public to cover the running costs. It will be a collaborative effort and run by a coalision of diffrent circus actors. Below is the specifications of the facility. Don’t hestitate to reach out to get involved.
Semaphore Dialogues
What is the signal it’s time for moving together? What are the signs to follow? Where do we go?
Semaphore Dialogues: Signals of change is an artistic research project by Marie-Andreé Robitaille. The project is part of Turning the Tide local Lab recidency program facilitated by Intercult with the support of @creative.eu, Blivande, Frihamnstorget och CirkusPerspektiv.
RAAF @ Frihamnstorget
Below Zero and Cirkus Cirkör take over Frihamnstorget with a high-wire performance and a try-wire-walking-yourself session on Saturday, 7 September.
Schedule:
14:00 – RAAF by Below Zero
15:00 – Wire-walking trial session with Cirkus Cirkör
About the performance RAAF:
RAAF is Sweden's first modern high-wire performance. It blends the traditional art of balancing on a tight-wire high above the ground with Below Zero's warm and abstract movement language. RAAF promises a high-tech, high-wire act for the whole family, evoking the feel of a watercolour picture book.
About the Wire-walking trial session:
Try the circus discipline wire-walking! Walking on a tightrope is relatively easy; most people can learn it. Cirkus Cirkör will have pedagogues on-site who offer tips and guidance.
Free entrance
